SSSSB Story 043a: “Lila Wants to Go Abroad Later” 

Lila and Dharmi were sitting on a little wall, watching the birds flying in front of the mountains. 

“I want to work in another country when I grow up,” said Lila. 

Dharmi said, “I hear that a lot. But it’s not always easy over there, you know.” 

Lila looked surprised. “Why not?” 

Dharmi said: “My cousin is in Japan, and my brother is in Australia. They earn more money than in Nepal!But they had to borrow a lot of money. My cousin misses Nepal and sometimes cries on the phone. My brother says Australia is more fun. He only speaks English now and doesn’t want to come back.” 

“Oh,” said Lila softly. “That’s sad.” 

Dharmi smiled. “That’s why I want to stay here. I love Nepal. I want to help my family and make our country better. That is my dharma.” 

Lila thought for a moment. “Can I help too?” 

“Of course!” said Dharmi. “We can do something beautiful for Nepal together!” 

The two girls jumped down from the wall and ran back to the village, laughing. 

Today’s question: “What can you do in Nepal to help make our country even more beautiful?”
